Birth is beautiful and wondrous. It is also just something women do.
Like other transformative life events, birth is sensual, intimate and can be challenging. As a childbirth educator and birth doula I understand the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor. I labor with the mother at home, assuaging anxiety and easing discomfort. I travel with her to the hospital or birth center and am there with my knowledge, my hands and my intuition from beginning to end.
Unlike doctors and nurses, who have commitments to many birthing women at once, I offer my continuous nurturing encouragement exclusively to one laboring woman at a time. Even midwives, who are typically more present than obstetricians, have clinical responsibilities that take priority over the mother’s emotional needs.
As a licensed acupuncturist, I can enhance the traditional doula role by using acupuncture to encourage the safe and gentle unfolding of this natural process. I can help labor move forward if it slows, strengthen mother’s energy if it wanes, ease labor pains, and coax baby into the optimal birthing position.
If you are considering working with me, I invite you to contact me for an initial meeting so we can determine if we are a good fit. References available upon request.
